How did you get into aerial arts?

A.k.a. How does a new mom find herself after twins?

After I had my twins, life was never the same. I was surrounded by so much love, but I felt like I had lost my own identity. (No regrets, I love my babies ❤️)

I used to be a competitive rhythmic gymnast, which also meant years of injuries: bad knees, bad ankles, and a really bad back… made even worse by carrying twins. I couldn’t sit for more than 2 hours without pain shooting through my tailbone. (Still no regrets.)

So... running? Not an option. I needed something gentle on my body, something that could slowly help me regain strength and flexibility.

Around that time, aerial yoga was becoming popular in Taiwan. There was a studio right across from my apartment, so I signed up for a trial class.
(How did that first class go? Disaster 😂 That’ll be Blog No. 2.)

But somehow… Aerial yoga helped my back A LOT.

Hanging in an invert took the pressure off my spine and, for the first time in a long time, it felt like my back could breathe again.

The supported stretching and strength training slowly brought my body back. And eventually, I started trying more advanced poses… then aerial hoop… and that’s when aerial arts became one of the great loves of my life, and one of my driving forces.

It all started with aerial yoga. And that’s why I teach it now.

I hope it helps others rediscover (or discover for the first time) their bodies too.
