For those of you who already know my story, thank you for being here for me. For everyone else, come find me in class and let’s become friends and learn each other's stories. 😊
All you need to know for now is: I’m a single mom with my kids full-time, so finding time to work out was something I had to figure out with them, not without them. If you’re in a similar boat, or just don’t have extra help with childcare, here’s how I made it work.
First, find a studio that’s kid-friendly (welcome to Everose Studios! 😁). Some studios don’t have sitting space or have different policies. Always ask before bringing children.
Second, sit down and talk to your kids about their hobbies (TV shows, toys, activities) and relate that to your workouts. I was able to do this when my kids were about three and a half. It was make-or-break for me, so I really needed them to understand how important it was for their mom to stay fit, healthy, and happy.
Third… I had to resort to using iPads. 😂😂😂 Sorry if that disqualifies me from credibility, feel free to swipe away. I don’t blame you. It’s not ideal. But here’s why:
You need your kids to be completely silent. Not just quiet. Silent… for about an hour.
My instructors have all been amazingly understanding with my kids (thank you Coco, Didi, Nicole), but I wanted to be able to train without answering to “mommy mommy mommy” the whole time. There was one very funny moment when I fell off the hoop and Preston came flying in to “save” me, but overall, it’s safer and more respectful to the class when kids aren’t part of the session.
After bringing your kids to class consistently, you’ll find that they start to understand how to respect a class setting (even in their own activities). You end up with little supporters who understand your hobby. I now have two kids who know my training schedule, check if I’m injured, remind me to rest, and even ask what moves I’m working on.
I’m not an expert, I’ve only figured this out once… but try it! Good luck!
